Search for Muddy200x, he has done this mod and posted a thread about it.Ĥ. If you really want to add travel you can swap out your shock for a 350X one but you will need a custom shock linkage.

You could have yours re-valved or maybe get one from a company like works or something but you won’t be adding travel. For the rear shock there is not too much you can do there. With the XR intake you will have to make your own air box hose though due to the different angle it has.ģ. It bolts on to your intake but you would have to then port the intake to match up with the carb. The best and easiest option is to get a Honda XR200 carb. There are several choices with the most common being the Honda XR200 cam, Web, Powroll, and Megacycles cams.Īs for the carb. Oh, I would shy away from the 12:1 piston because it would require race gas.Ī cam is another thing you can do without too much hassle. The kick start gears can be a weak point even on the stock engines so you might as well save them from some stress.

If you do go with this I would (and plan on doing so with mine) swap out the cam cover with one from an atc 185 or 200 so you have the manual decompression lever. Remember to hone the cylinder or have it bored to the next size if needed. If you are planning on going into the motor then a Wiesco 10.25 : 1 compression piston would be a good choice. I would then get a better air filter and remove the air box lid or remove the whole air box all together and use a K&N filter with outerwear (as long as you don’t ride un wet stuff). The performance pipe is a good place to start.
HONDA ATC 185 VALVES MODS
Mods are fun but you should figure out what you intend to use the bike for first and have a budget in mind. If the front end is still too soft for your liking then you can run progressive springs (best but $80 option) or PVC spacers on the top of the springs.Ģ. The forks should not be pressurized, if you do want to add some air only go with a few pounds. Fork seals – Disassemble the forks and replace the seals, reassemble the forks and add about 7 oz of 10W oil or auto trans. A manual can be bought for about $25 or I think there is an electronic version in one of these threads.ġ.
HONDA ATC 185 VALVES HOW TO
įirst off having a manual would really help, it gives step by step instructions on how to replace them (and everything else on the trike). And that is a nice looking trike you have, now get ready for a long post. Do I have a gem on my hands?įirst off, Welcome to 3 Wheeler World. So is the 200x special? Im not really aware of which models are the most sought after, and why.

The 200x is still ridden extensively by my wife, so I will probably do one little thing at a time. Its a little bit more expensive then I hoped, but Im sure its worth every penny. I did come across powroll after reading the entire restoration thread linked above. Myself and quite a large amount of people on this board are infatuated with the 200x and know every little detail about it!. You can still buy them from honda but most go to clymer. The best piece to buy in fact would be the manual. The tires are cheap, lightweight, and get a lot of grip. Also a neat little trick is to use the carb of an XR200R, with the engine mod's and also going down to 18" turf tamer tires. I have used many of their products and I must say, I was very impressed. IF you really want to hop up the 200x, cam and valves and such, go to Those guys are four stroke masters.

Also, feel free to post links to other resources. Are there any other big ticket items that are a "must have" for the 85 200x?Īny help would be appreciated. I dont want something radical, just perhaps a slightly longer aftermarket shock?Ĥ. The rear shock is in great condition, but id like to get a little more travel and plushness from the rear end if that is possible. I do already have a Cobra exhaust, but nothing else. What are some good methods to extract more power from the 200x motor? Id like to keep the 200cc motor, but maximize its potential. Also, are the forks supposed to be pressurized? There is a fill valve at the top. I found new seals, but I dont know what weight fork oil goes in, how much, or where to fill from. I have done all the basic service, but now its time to do some major stuff I think. He gave it to me a few years back, and I have been riding it frequently. My father was the original owner of a 1985 Honda ATC 200x.
